If you are in school, thinking about going back to school, or just want to know more about school, education, higher learning, etc. look no further. I have been in grad school for over a year now and I am here to spill all the tea concerning the in’s and out of grad school and all it contains.
So, if you must know I am a grad school student in the field of Clinical Social Work at the Cleveland State University. I originally desired to attend Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA majoring in Dance/Movement Therapy and Counseling. Yeah, I know, I never heard of it either before I found out about it in my last year of undergrad.
Now undergrad consist of attaining an Associates or Bachelors degree. Graduate studies consist of obtaining a Masters or Doctorate degree. In grad school, you are considered a “professional student”. Why a professional student? Simply because you have achieved a good amount of post secondary education experience.
Now let me tell you, any type of schooling is no joke. Especially when you are juggling children, a family, self care, and the ups and downs of life. School is a commitment. School is a sacrifice. School is a great big test to see if you can sustain and stand the test of time.
If you are not juggling as much as I currently am, kudos to you! I encourage you today! If I can do it, so can you honey! Finding the time to attend classes (if in person or virtually) , complete assignments, meet deadlines all while picking up, dropping off, cooking dinner, doing laundry, getting enough sleep, working out, drinking plenty of water, etc. This is where the real test of time comes in. It is A LOT. I am not here to sugar coat the reality. However, that is why I am keen on pursuing something you LOVE. Pursuing your DREAMS because that is what is going to keep you on the course of action. Versus pursuing something that you care so little about. It will waste time, money, resources and a boat load of other more productive, authentic things you could be doing with your time. Do you hear me?
Another thing, a little story. On the quest of pursuing my lifelong passion, dance. I got an epiphany one day on my way to class. The epiphany or revelation or whatever you wish to call it was this… what if I went just as hard on my God given purpose than I do with my education? That was the big question. I was so focused, so dedicated, so resilient, so committed to pursuing my education and my degree. During my time in college, I learned so much about myself as a person. Self Discovery some would call it. I learned how much I actually loved to learn and pursue higher learning whether that be education, travel, socially etc.
But back to the basics I wanted to share. Yes, going to school is tough. Going back to school is scary. But time will go on regardless so would you rather have something to show for that passed time or nothing at all? Just lock in and remain focused on your goal(s), your why, and the passion that fuels your chosen career.
